It is very important to discuss about how is freedom of press essential for a healthy democracy and very important to know about the role of media in a democratic nation.
Parliament, court, constitution etc. are the pillars of democracy. Democracy depends on the transparency. Strength of this foundation when we talk about media, a question naturally emerges that how much freedom should be given to media. Some people argues that media should be under control of the government. For healthy and strong democracy, freedom pf press is very essential. Now it is time to face the press and other media from the censorship of the government.
3rd May is observed as 'World Press Freedom Day'. All over the world that remains people that press serves people and maintain there rights. Actually, the world press freedom day makes the anniversary of the declaration of wind hock. A statement of principal drawn by African journalist calling for a free indipendant and pluralistic media in the world. Free press is one of the most required components of a democratic society.
Now today, modern century is the century of information explosion from every medium, Information is received; the information related to governance, political policies, income etc. are very significant for the citizens of the democratic notion. The citizens can evaluate the performance of a particulars government and then decide to relect or reject the government. The information on which such decision is taken is received from press or electronic media thats why freedom of press becomes essential.
Freedom of press will make the citizen liberal in real democratic nation. Democracy and free media are two sides of the same coin. Press freedom is also precondition for economic and social progress. This movement of freedom of the press is found all over the world, as people have realized that democracy is the best system and freedom of press can established true democracy.
