Review on 'Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Cornad

Joseph Cornad occupies a respectable possition as a fiction writer in the history of English Litrature. 'Heart of Darkness' Is the most famous work  by him. Which expresses his journey in the Congo. It is Cornad's most complex novellathat offers a brilliant fiction a coun of the savge. extortion which often in the quest of imperial progress. It is a journey thogh the Congo deep into the 'Heart of Africa and in to human nature. The focus of the story is on Mr. Kurtz, who has power to corrupt other and himself through his eloquence. The novel also lead by the civilized European in the African territory.

'Heart of Darkness' explores the issues surrounding imperialism in a complicated way. It also reveals the issue surrounding the hypocrisy of imperialism. Moreover, other things are madness as a result of imperialism. The absurdity of evil, comment on racial problems etc. 'Heart of Darkness' introduses a different group of characters. It ia a advanturous story that mainly developes at different location even some forest areas, mainly there are male characters like Manager, Rusian Trader etc. There is a limited role of female like Marlow's aunt, Kurtz's African mistress, Kurtz's fiance etc. Joseph Cornad is consider as the pioneer of modern novel writing. He is the link between late victorian stle of novel writing and modern style of novel writing. 'Heart of Darkness' is a fine example of Cornad's literary art. This novel has a different plot. The story advances with Marlow's Journe towards the innersation. It moves backward and forward, that means flashback technique is used. The story devided into three parts. 'Heart of Darkness' shows use of certain symbols like fog, the river, women etc. Even the title is highly symbolic. Fog indicate invisibility or confusing condition to take decision. Kurtz's African mistress stands as blank status upon which the values of society's can be displayed. The Congo river is the key to African for  European.

'Heart of Darkness' is indeed a valuable literary work of Joseph Cornad, he convenes some satirical comments in this novel about so call civilized European race. Marlow is the protagonist ant mouthpiece of the novelist. The novel takes reader an a long journey of different places of Brussel and deep Congo forest in Africa.

In this video Sir Ken Robinson is talk about the public education system. He criticized and not in side of public education system. He sasy thay the paradigm of public education is changed on the basis of two things, that is cultural and economic. In the society cultural position and economical position both are very important. So, the purpose of poblic education is to make to student at higher position as cultural and economically. Our traditional education system is very different. Students are not allow to enter in other classes, they can not learn other things, except their main subject. They  become masters in only one subject. Another important thing which Ken Robinson discuss is 'Divergent Thinking'. We think that by divergent thinking student can not focus in study, but  Ken Robinson says that through divergent thinking student can creat a lot many things and can improve their creativity. We can also says that there is be possible of isoleted learning to collaborative learning, active learning to inreractive learing. Students become downloaders to uploaders, they become users to creators and contributors.

Video 4 :  Use of Video in Education

In this video Salman Khan talk about the use of videos in education. Now a days technology is very helpful in education and also in self learning. Through the videos studens can learn the things in a very easy and simple way. Through the relevent videos of different subjects like sums of maths, map, chemestry, literature this all the things we can understand this thinds in a very easy way by watching videos and also can improve our self learning. Technology gives us many useful features like You tube, Through You Tube we can downloud videos and watch it ans we can also uplaod videos, that may helpful to other other learners. Through the videos we can can learn the things repetedly we can pause it and learn it. Whenever we wants to learn we can learn through videos. Videos are more effective for learning than the traditional class. We can learn very difficult things in a very easy way. It motivet to students, it helpful to home - schooler students. In traditional classroom teachers can not spent more time with students, they always busy in taking lectures and tests. But by flipping the class or by using technology or videos, teacher can spent more and more time with students. So, we can say that videos are very helpful in education for easy learning and effective understandings.

video 5 :- Marc Prensky: Digital Natives, Dgital Immigrants

In this video Marc Prenscky talk about Digital Natives and Digital Immigrants. The present time is the time of technology. So, the new generation is growing up with technology and also take education through self learning with technology  rather than traditional way of teaching. Life of today's generation is surrounded by using computers, video games, Digital music players, cell phons and all the other toys and tools of the digital age. They spent less time in reading and spent more time in playing video games or with digital tools. All the digital things like T.V, Computers, Emails, cell phones etc. are integral parts of their lives. Thos who were not born into the digital world but have at some later point in our lived becomes fascinated by and adopted many or most aspects of the new technology and always will be compared to them that they are immigrants. Digital natives are learn technology very fast, while digital immigrants take a time to learn digital things. there is two types of content, first content is legacy content to bar the computers term for old systems and the second is future content. Legacy content includes reading, writing, arithmetic, logical thinking, understanding to writings and ideas of past etc. all of our traditional curriculams future content includes the high technological things in it.

In Future for  Digital natives there is no need to learn tables or multiples and calculation, they learn only how to install calculator. So, we can say that if digital immigrants wants to teach IE to digital natives, they have to change their methodology of traditional teaching and they have to learn new methodology of teaching with new technology.

Can Technology Replace Teachers?

Can Technology replace Teacher?

Dear readers, here I am sharing my views on the topic 'Can Technology replace Teacher?'

Still we think that 21st century of Sceince and Tchnology. But now in present time, we have to change our thinking, now 21st century is a century of information and communication through Technology. We use tchnology in every field like, medical, buisiness, agriculture and education and many more. At education level there is one question is raised now a days, that Can technology replace reacher? and also many other questions raised about technology and teachers. like, What does technology do for us?

We know that 'every Coin has two sides'. So, there is also good side and bad side also. For this question 'Can Technology replace Teacher?' there is two types of views that is possitive and negative also. There is advantages and disadvantages of technology.

What does Technology do for us?

This is very important question that what does technology do for us? Technology is very helpful in classroom . In English classes, students are able to watch videos of some novels and plays. They watch it and learn it in better way, they also watch at home or anywhere. Technology is growing not just within our classrooms but also in our everyday lives. So, it is therefor natural that we should increasingly incorporate it into classrooms.  Technology also save time and drive efficiency. By automating work such as assighnments, marking and result compilation.

Teacher will not replace by Technology.

Teacher will never replace by technology. A lot of the magic and aha moments that happen in the classroom are due to a teacher's ability to coach, coax and challenges their students. The capacity to creat a learning relationshim requires an element of humanity and is a difficult skill to master. For this and many other reasons technology can not replace teachers, it will empower them. The role a teacher plays in classroom is huge. Everyone knows this  on a personal level and can identify a teacher or mentor who has had influence on us or changed our tranjectories in a positive way.

Teacher are not and can not be automatons handing out information to students. They are leaders, guides, facilitators and mentors. They encourage students when they struggle and inspire them to set and reach for their goals. They are role models, leading by example and giving direction when necessary. A computer can give information, but a teacher can lend a hand, or  an ear and discern whatis necessary for students to succeed, and to want to succeed.

So, we can say yes, technology is going to play a critical role in a future of education. But not as big a role as that of a teacher. So, technology can not replace teacher.

                                        'The  Heathen'

'The Hairy Ape'

                                     'The Hairy Ape'

Any Discussion about modern tragedy would be incomplete without considering Eugene O'Neile's contribution to enrich the field of drama. 'The Hairy Ape' points out the misery of mankind who has lost his identity in the technologically advanced modern world. The main idea in the play is in the wast universe to whom the man belongs, the search for identity is the main point. Here, man does not live by bread alone, but spiritual help and well being are also necessary. Man can be lonely in a crowd, the tragedy of Yank is the tragedy of millions in the modern age.

Yank, the central character of this play possesses several characteristics of the 'Ape'. He resembles to Ape as he is very strong, a well muscledman with hair on his chest. Miss Douglass calls him, "Filthy Beast", the hairy ape. This remark changes life of Yank, so the title is apt to the play. A drama is designed in act. 'The Hairy Ape' is short play that is devided into 8 scenes. The plot is well built.

Since, 'The Hairy Ape'  is a play, it has limited scop of settings action take place in the play mainly at few places. In this short play. O'Neill presents a variety of settings which also serves as a symbol.

As a whole, this tragedy enriched the tressure of American tragedy by its approprate title, suitable themes, well constructed plot, well portrayed characters, its variety of settings, technique of using symols in the play. O'Neill also used his unique style in this tragedy.

'The Bluest Eye'

                                               'The Bluest Eye'

'The Bluest Eye' points out a realistic picture of the black community in America by an American novelist Toni Morrison. 'The Bluest Eye' is a well chosen title that is short, simple and meaningful. It has a symbolic value that indicats here as the central character of this story Pecola's dreams to have the Bluest Eye. Moreover the title shows superlative form Bluest of the adjective blue which means Pecola wishes to have the most beautiful eye.

There is not one but more themes in 'The Bluest Eye' like whiteness as standared of beauty, the power of stories, sexual initation and abuse etc. make the novel a complex one. Morrision points out the whitness is superior and standared of beauty. The novel introduses a powerfull gallary of characters. The novel presents the life of black people through the characters of Pecola Claudia and Frieda. The pre-adolescents, they are leading characters.

'The Bluest Eye' has a strong plot construction. The whole storty is told through the character of  Cloudia, She represents as a child and an adult as well as the third person. There are total 11 chapters in the novel connected logicaly. 'The Bluest Eye' is a rich in symbolism. Friendship

                                             Friendship

'Friendship' poem written by Henery David Thoreau. This is a common title 'Friendship' that is found in many other literary works like essays, poems and short stories. But the way Thoreau glorifies 'Friendship' is really unique. The poem focuses on the biggest relationship 'Friendship'.

H.D Thoreau analysis friendship from its roots and finds out that there is no difference between love and friendship, both are equally important in relationship. Love is the greatest force on the earth and it is the base of every relationship. No filling is purer and superior to love in life. A person with love is always in majority. Love can be seen in many relationships like husband and wife, parents and children, brother and sister etc. But love is incomplete without friendship. In any relationship there has to be element of friendship in order to make a successful relationship.

Friendship is a gift, you give to yourself. A true friend is a God's blessing. Friends are the most important and crucial part of our life. A person or any relative who treat you like friend is someone with whom you feel comfortable. You can easily share your joy and sorrow with your friends. They are your backbone, you need them in every part of life.

The Poet combines both these elements and remarks that they are inter connected. Friendship laid on the dround of love will always be successful but when friendship is laid on the base of selfishness the friendship looses its charm. End of Friendship means end of Love.

The poem 'Friendship' not only highlights the dignity of friendship but also establishes its bond with love. H.D Thoreau is a thinker so his poetry expresses the ideas more than feelings.

My blog on The Poem "Deffodils' By William Wordsworth

'Daffodils' by William Wordsworth

'Daffodils' is the master piece by the romantic poet William Wordsworth. He is also considered  as the major natural poet. Who brings revolution in to the field of English poetry. Publication of 'Lyrical Ballad'(1798) is landmark in the history of English poetry.
The present poem deals with the theme of nature. Wordsworth shows his motherly affection towards nature. William Wordsworth establish the relation between nature and human. This poem has three different levels, that is phonological level, structural level and semantic level.

In the beginning of the poetry the poet is in pensive mood and wanders lonely as  a mids of mountain. Poet compares himself with cloud in the sense that they both have no direction and no aim, all of a sudden, the poet happens to see host of golden daffodils. Which dance with breeze situated and beside the beneath the tree. Here, the poet gives complete picture of daffodils and their position.

"....I wandered lonely as a cloud,
that floats on high o'er vales and hills."

In the second stanza, the poet goes on to accessed his limit and stretches it to the level of exaggeration. The poet  compares daffodils with shining star- star's shin in the sky. Similarly daffodils shine on the earth in a Jovian mood. The poet claims that he sees Ten thousand  daffodils at a glans. The poet vision or eye fall shots to see the ending line of daffodils to narrate the beauty of daffodils. The poet says that the crowd of daffodils dance by tossing their heads.

"....Ten thousand saw i at a glance,
tossing their heads in sprightly dance."

In the third stanza, the poet describe the location of daffodils exactly beside the crowd of daffodils, that is a running flow of river. Intention of the poet to compare river and daffodils. Daffodils is to compare weaves of the river with weaving of the daffodils. This creats rhyming effect the mesmerising effect of the scene has megical effect on the poet. Hence, the poet is nothing but gay. The poet calls such a company as jocund company. In emmersed condition, the poet gazed....and gazed....the beauty of nature. the poet considered this as true wealth.

".....A poet could not be gay,
                       in such a jacund company:
                       I gazed....and gazed...but little thought".

The final stanza takes turn, it is only in this stanza that readers comes to know that poet talks about his past experience. This poetry is the fruit of poet's imagination and experience. The poet recallects such Zocand experience when he is in vacent or pensive mood. The poet says that such a sweet memories are bliss of solitude. Such a memories flash upon inward eye. When the poet is alon and their remains non but the poet and sweet memories. This fills the poet heart with pleasure and starts dancing with the deffodils.

"....And they my heart with pleasure fills,
                           and dances with the daffodils".

In short, the poet nurrats his wonderful experience being with deffodils, it also takes in to the account the effect of nature on human being. Thus, the poem establishes the relationship between human and nature.

This movie impact of the AI Queda attack on one Pakistani man and his treatment by Americans in reaction to them.

This movie is about a one man Changez Khan, a Pakistani man who goes to America for job and to make his good future. He easily mixed up with the environment and people of America. Everything was well going but his life changed after the attack of 9/11 on America. American people starting to doubt on him he comes from Pakistan. He becomes symbol of terror for Americans. Review of the Movie 'Midnight's Children'

Review of the Movie 'Midnight's Children'

'Midnight's Children' is a film adaptation of Salman Rushdie's 1981 novel, the same name. The film is directed by Deepa Mehta. This film represent many realistic facts, magic realism, mythical technique and magical element, something that is unreal or unbelivable. Mr.Rushdie and Mrs. Gandhi became enemies when 'Midnight's Children' was published in 1981. Because this novel is covering over 60 years in a turbulent history of India and Pakistan from the end of the of the Second world war up to Indira Gandhi's repressive "Emergency" of the 1970s.

The main Protagonist of the film is Saleem Sunai, he is also the main narrator of the film. He started his story from the time of his grandfather. This film is creating many confusion, that confusion about parents of two children, who born the same night of 14th August,1947. But the christian nurse change that both children , she change them for desire of her lover Joe for same reason, he did not want the partition of the India. He told nurse to exchange children of poor and rich. The idea of tacking money from rich and give it to poor. So, it is revolutionary or Marxist idea.

This novel raises the ontological question of Saleem's life. We can find several gray areas about Saleem's identity. When we ask Question at that time we find several information about his existence and identity. Here we also find the problem of hybridity.

Political crisis is one of the major events of the Novel. Which portrayed the India during 'Indira Gandhi's rule. Emergency is world - known political crisis for India. Salman Rushdie masks fun of India's progress by suggesting that India and Saleem Grew together.

At the end of the movie Hindu, Muslim and Christine three identity is presented. So, We can say that in this movie there is we find post Colonialism.

'The Birthday Party' post - Viewing Task

The Birthday Party
Post-Viewing Task:

1)   Why are two s

cenes of Lulu omitted from the movie?

The main protagonist of the play is Stanley Webber. The story  running around him. The two scenes are omitted from the movie, because if viewers  will see that drum, scene in which LuL was abusing by Stanley, it means viewers  may have sympathy for LuLu and LuLu will become protagonist of the play, and may the viewers will see it by feminist view point. So, may be that is the reason behind omitted of LuLu's two scenes.

2) Is movie successful in giving us the effect of menace? Where            you able to feel it while reading the text?

Yes, movie is successful in giving us the effect of Menace. We can feel it i  n many time in the movie. For example, at the starting of the movie, there is a noise of tearing newspaper, and other is noise of Toy drum, Lulu's laughing and many sound we can fell in the movie while reading the text, may be it is not possible to feel it in effective way, but in movie, or it is more effective. so, we can say that the movie is effective to give the effect of menace. while reading the text it is felt but not as effective as movie.

3) Do you feel the effect of lurking danger while viewing the          movie? Where you able to feel the same while reading the            text

In the scene of birthday party, when all the characters accept Petey  playing the game of hide and sick and when Stanley's turn come it seems very serious and  by the effect of camera it look like very dangerous. It shows that something will happen which will not good and we find also that in the very next scene where LuLu is abusing by Stanley. The same thing we can also feel in the text.

4) What do you read in 'newspaper' in the movie? Petey is reading newspaper to Meg, it torn into pieces by McCain, pieces are hidden by Petey in last scene.

Newspaper is the most recurrent symbol. pinter's characters hide themeselves behind the newspaper. For Petey newspaper is symbol for hiding himself. He knows the reality of that two strangers and what happens with Stanley. He was hide the pieces of the newspaper from Meg, he is not said anything to her, because he was torn by that two men. MecCan's  the torn pieces shows his mentality towards Stanley. He want to change or torn Stanley's mentality like the pieces of the newspaper.

5) Camera is positioned over the head of McCain when he is                playing Blind Man's Buff and is positioned at the top with a            view of room like a cage (trap) when Stanley is playing it. What       interpretations can you give to these positioning of camera?

It shows that some one is always watching us, there is no freedom. that's why even at the one's own home also become like prison. It shows the Government policy that some one always keep watching that is master's policy and it is also shown in  Birthday party from which Stanley was suffered.

6) "Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of one another and pretense crumbles." (Pinter, Art, Truth & Politics: Excerpts from the 2005 Nobel Lecture). Does this happen in the movie?

"Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of one another and pretense crumbles." Yes, it is happened in the movie and also in the play. the play and the movie , both are represented this things.

7)   How does viewing movie help in better understanding of the play ‘The Birthday Party’ with its typical characteristics (like painteresque, pause, silence, menace, lurking danger)?
Visual is always better than reading. In reading we can not feel more effect of the expression of characters and their emotions and the background , sound and the scene  we can feel at better way by watching the movie. By reading the text it is much not effective.

8)  With which of the following observations you agree:

o   “It probably wasn't possible to make a satisfactory film of "The Birthday Party."
o    “It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”[3]. (Ebert)

I am agree with the second one:“It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”[3]. (Ebert).

9) If you were director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of movie?

  •  What connection do you see in the setting (“A country road. A tree.Evening.”) of the play and these paintings?

This Two paintings has very much similarities. This two paintings  by Caspar David Fredrich (September 5, 1774 - May 7, 1840). Beckett  was inspired by this painting. The one painting was of 'Longing'. This painting was the inspiration behind of the 'setting' of 'Waiting for Godot'. In the painting of 'Longing' there were one couple who longing for somethings. Waiting can be read sometimes as longing. In the painting of 'Waiting for Godot' there were two men who was waiting. The words 'longing' and 'waiting' also suggest similar meanings. Waiting is the meaning of longing something, longing for Godot, longing connected with salvation or meaninglessness.

  • The tree is the only important ‘thing’ in the setting. What is the importance of tree in both acts? Why does Beckett grow a few leaves in Act II on the barren tree -The tree has four or five leaves - ?

Leaves on Tree - Waiting for Godot

The tree is a very important symbol in the setting of the play. In first Act there no any leaf on the tree. But in 2nd Act there were four of five leafs. It symbolize the hope. That there were one type of big change will come in their situations, because of Godot. So, leafs also symbolizes hope and tree also symbolizes Universe and Human indifferent bush and shrew also religious symbolism.

  •    In both Acts, evening falls into night and moon rises. How would you like to interpret this ‘coming of night and moon’ when actually they are waiting for Godot?

Image result for image of waiting for godot

In both acts, evening falls in to night and moon rise. In first act we know that Vladimir many time said that when night comes? The night and moon symbolize the hope of something of change. But we know that nature can not wait for anything, its running on its own way. But in the life of human being, there is only wait, no tomorrow will come, and its being human's daily routine.

  •    T  The director feels the setting with some debris. Can you read any meaning in the contours of debris in the setting of the play.                                     Image result for image of series on the setting of waiting for godot                                                                                         The presence of debris on the setting of the play, it suggest the world War 2. The theme of the play is nothingness and meaninglessness. And also shows the destruction after the world War 2.

  •     Tow are the props like hat and boots used in the play? What is the symbolical significance of these props.                                                                         Image result for image of waiting for godot                                                                                              This two props like Hat and Boots both symbolized very deep meaning. Hat was connected with Vladimir and Boots was connected with estragone. Boots suggest the physical meaning and Hat suggest the spiritual meaning. Physical and spiritual both are different, means Vladimir and Estragone both were different to each other, but some time, you come to same situation, you may coming at the same situation.
  •    Who according to you is Godot? God? An object of desire? Death? Goal? Success? Or  . . .
According to me, Godot is Hope. Vladimir and Estragone have one type of hope. They have a hope for salvation, one day Godot will come and they will get salvation. And Godot is also one type of goal to where Vladimire and Estragone wanted to reach, That is the goal of salvation.

  • Do you think that the obedience of Lucky is extremely irritating and nauseatic? Even when the master Pozzo is blind, he obediently hands the whip in his hand. Do you think that such a capacity of slavishness is unbelievable?
Yes, the obedience of Lucky is extremely irritating and nauseatic. Even when the master Pozzo is blind, he obediently hands the whip in his hand. Yes,I think that this is the capacity of slavishness is unbelievable. It also suggest that England control on Ireland because the name of Lucky and Pozzo suggest the name of country. Lucky was truly devoted to his master, even if his master was totally blind.

  •   Which of the following sequence you liked the most:
o   Vladimir – Estragon killing time in questions and conversations while waiting
Vladimir and Estragon: The Had and the Boot
o   Pozzo – Lucky episode in both acts
o   Converstion of Vladimir with the boy

The sequence of Pozzo and Lucky's episode in the both acts, I liked the most. Because of this scene I was feeling shocked when seeing this scene, such a capacity of slavishness is unbelievable, the relationship of master - slave and Lucky was fully devoted to his master, even if he was blind. So, that's why I liked Lucky and Pozzo's episode most.
