Friendship

                                             Friendship

'Friendship' poem written by Henery David Thoreau. This is a common title 'Friendship' that is found in many other literary works like essays, poems and short stories. But the way Thoreau glorifies 'Friendship' is really unique. The poem focuses on the biggest relationship 'Friendship'.

H.D Thoreau analysis friendship from its roots and finds out that there is no difference between love and friendship, both are equally important in relationship. Love is the greatest force on the earth and it is the base of every relationship. No filling is purer and superior to love in life. A person with love is always in majority. Love can be seen in many relationships like husband and wife, parents and children, brother and sister etc. But love is incomplete without friendship. In any relationship there has to be element of friendship in order to make a successful relationship.

Friendship is a gift, you give to yourself. A true friend is a God's blessing. Friends are the most important and crucial part of our life. A person or any relative who treat you like friend is someone with whom you feel comfortable. You can easily share your joy and sorrow with your friends. They are your backbone, you need them in every part of life.

The Poet combines both these elements and remarks that they are inter connected. Friendship laid on the dround of love will always be successful but when friendship is laid on the base of selfishness the friendship looses its charm. End of Friendship means end of Love.

The poem 'Friendship' not only highlights the dignity of friendship but also establishes its bond with love. H.D Thoreau is a thinker so his poetry expresses the ideas more than feelings.
